Basically I took a very small precision flat-head screwdriver (the red rectangle on picture), stuck it into the female connector and twisted it so that the curved portions of the connector bent downwards and reduced the gap (shown in blue) and clinched the male end better. I have attached my crude drawing of how I modified the female connectors to re-establish a robust, solid electrical connection between the male-female connection. Turns out that it was in fact one, maybe 2 wires that seemed to have a poor connection. So I re-did my "wire tug" test to see if it was in fact one or two wires that were causing the lights to flicker (at this point, the Parking Light Switch was on, and I was watching my instrument cluster to see if the lights flickered or not). I thought I'd do some more investigation before I start ripping stuff out. For clarification purposes, when I'm referring to male/female, I'm talking about the actual metal conductors, NOT the plastic housing that holds the wires together. Even more specifically, it has to do with the left-most wire (or wires) of the connector, when looking head on (so the upper and lower connector that are most rearward of vehicle when connected). The issue is the C980 connector - more specifically, the female end that you can pull out of the fuse box (which is male). That's it! $0 to fix, 4 hours internet research over 3 months, 30 minutes actual investigation, 15 minutes actual fix. Summary - poor electrical connection between female-male ends of C980 connector. I believe I have fixed the issue permanently. I'll hop back on here soon after I've had a chance to take some pics and fix this issue. My next step is to dismantle the fuse box and check out the backside to try and pinpoint the nature of the poor-ass electrical connection that seems to have worked itself loose over time.įor all of you out there struggling with this issue - check out the attached picture, and give the C980 connector a good working over to see if you're also experiencing this same issue. But when I give the whole connector a tug/push (by grabbing all the wires together), the lights turn on and off! So now I start gently tugging on the individual wires on the C980 connector. BUT - parking lights flicker upon re-connection of connector! lights don't even flicker.ĥ) pull switch C980 (main light connector in under-dash fuse box), inspect connectors - nothing, connectors are perfect, not a trace of rust/crap. My "design of experiments" was as follows:ġ) turn on parking light switch - note that lights do not go onĢ) inspect and swap fuse #10 (15A) in under-dash fuse box - nothing (original fuse was fine, btw)ģ) unless I didn't read the Prelude factory manual right, there is no parking light relay - move on.Ĥ) light switch - turn on while gently pulling, gently pushing, gently applying lateral/axial forces while turning on/off, to see if it's a mechanical issue with switch itself.perhaps dirt/grime over the years - nothing. I'm hesitant to drop it off at the dealership, being the money miser that I am, and decided to really tinker around with fuses, switches, wiring, relays - more than usual. Sometimes they worked fine, sometimes they turned off while driving, and finally they just decided to stop turning on at all. My parking/tail/dash lights just sort of decided to randomly stop over the course of about a month. Running a 2000 Lude with all sorts of mods, but no major electrical mods as of yet. Same issue with me, and i just figured out my problem. Hey guys, new member here (longtime lurker) - I see that this thread is still active, so I want to share my findings in hope that it will help someone out there.
